Amazon Vine - Hands typing on a laptop with a digital review interface

Picture yourself browsing Amazon for the perfect housewarming gift. You spot a colorful, reasonably-priced cookware set that might work perfectly for your friend’s new kitchen. The product details look promising, but you need more information.

What do you do next?

Like most shoppers today, you’ll check the customer reviews. Reviews influence up to 93% of consumers’ purchasing decisions. For most shoppers, ratings and reviews from other buyers provide crucial information about unfamiliar products or services.

But how can you leverage credible reviews to grow your Amazon business?

Let’s talk about the Amazon Vine program and how it can help you get high-quality reviews.

What is Amazon Vine?

Amazon Vine connects trusted reviewers (called Vine Voices) with products that need honest feedback. These comprehensive reviews help potential buyers determine if a product meets their needs.

For sellers, Vine offers an opportunity to collect high-quality, unbiased reviews that serve as social proof and can boost sales. According to Amazon data, Vine reviews can increase sales by up to 30%.

Beyond sales growth, Vine reviews offer several advantages:

  • They generate buzz for new or slow-moving products by highlighting key features and benefits
  • They improve visibility, build credibility, and foster customer trust
  • They help reduce returns and provide critical insights for product improvements

Amazon Vine for customers

Amazon Vine invites select customers (Vine Voices) to provide detailed, unbiased reviews. Customers who consistently share insightful reviews may receive an invitation to join. Once enrolled, they can order items for free and share their experiences through honest reviews.

Amazon doesn’t publish specific eligibility requirements for shoppers who want to join Vine. Their website simply states that customers who consistently share honest, unbiased reviews are most likely to receive invitations.

For transparency, reviews written by Vine Voices display a special badge that reads “Vine Customer Review of Free Product.”

How does Amazon Vine work?

After registering for Vine, you can enroll your products in the program, making them available to Vine Voices. These reviewers can request products (provided free by sellers) in exchange for honest reviews. After trying the product, Vine Voices write detailed reviews to help other Amazon customers make informed purchasing decisions.

Key Amazon Vine considerations

Before joining Amazon Vine, here are some important factors to understand:

Eligibility criteria

Currently, the Vine program is available exclusively to professional sellers who:

If you can’t access this feature, you’ll need to request permission from your Seller Central account administrator. Navigate to Settings, select User Permissions > Manage Permissions, and choose Advertising > Vine.

Specific product requirements

Beyond brand registry requirements, your products must meet these criteria to qualify for Amazon Vine:

  • Products must be FBA offers (Amazon fulfills Vine Voice requests through FBA to maintain reviewer anonymity)
  • You must have available inventory, and products should have fewer than 30 published reviews on the product details page
  • Products must have an image, description, and title
  • Products must be classified under a browse node (Amazon’s product organization system)
  • Products must fall into one of these categories: adult, digital, heavy, or bulky

Amazon Vine enrollment costs

Amazon charges Vine enrollment fees per parent ASIN. The cost depends on the number of units enrolled (maximum 29).

Charges apply seven days after the first Vine review for that ASIN enrollment is published. Here’s the rate card:

Once you enroll an ASIN, you cannot modify the enrolled units or add more child ASINs to the existing enrollment. If your product doesn’t receive reviews from Vine Voices, or if a review is published more than 90 days after submission, you won’t be charged an enrollment fee.

Amazon Vine cancellation policy

You can cancel a product’s Vine enrollment if Vine Voices haven’t claimed the units. Even if a Vine Voice has claimed a unit, you can still cancel the enrollment to prevent additional claims. However, canceling an enrollment doesn’t necessarily prevent Vine Voices from publishing reviews.

To cancel a Vine enrollment:

  • Go to your Seller Central account or access your Vine application
  • Click “Stop”

Once canceled, you cannot re-enroll an ASIN. The program allows each ASIN to be enrolled only once in its lifetime.

Additional important notes:

  • You cannot remove a review, but you can report violations of Amazon’s Community Guidelines
  • Vine doesn’t support ASIN bundling, splitting, or case packs
  • Sellers cannot transfer reviews between ASINs, even if a Vine Voice posts on the wrong page
  • Vine Voices don’t have review deadlines, so they may not post immediately
  • Vine is currently available to brand owners in the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Japan

Getting started with Amazon Vine

Signing up for Amazon Vine is straightforward. First, check your eligibility and sign up for a Professional selling plan. Then enroll in the Amazon Brand Registry.

Once completed, start enrolling products through your Seller Central account:

  • Log in to Seller Central
  • Go to “Advertising” and click “Vine” to access your dashboard

How to enroll a product

Follow these steps to enroll a product in Vine:

  1. Enter the ASIN of the product you want to enroll in the text box
  2. Click “Begin Enrollment”
  3. Verify your product information on the enrollment details page
  4. For standalone ASINs: Enter the number of units (1-30) you want to enroll
  5. For product sets: Click “Add Variations” and choose the variations you want to enroll. Click “Add Variations” again to confirm. Amazon recommends selecting “All product variations in stock” to give Vine Voices more flexibility
  6. Click “Enroll” and review the enrollment fee and terms
  7. Click “Enroll” again to complete the process

How to manage your Vine products

Your Vine dashboard displays recent enrollments on the first page. Search for older enrollments by entering their ASIN or SKU. You can also:

  • Check product status (ordered and reviewed)
  • Cancel enrollments
  • View enrollment dates, available units, and total enrolled units
  • See units claimed by Vine Voices and published review counts

How to track Vine reviews

To monitor Vine reviews for enrolled products:

  1. Log in to Seller Central
  2. Go to “Advertising” and click “Vine”
  3. Use your dashboard to search for the product’s SKU or ASIN

The Vine Reviews tab shows how many reviews Vine Voices have submitted. To see published reviews, click the product title to view its detail page and look for the “Amazon Vine Review of a Free Product” badge.

Common Vine errors

Your dashboard displays enrollment errors at the top for immediate attention. Common errors include:

  • No FBA Offer: Occurs when your enrolled product’s SKU no longer has an FBA offer. Solution: Convert your offer to FBA
  • No image: Happens when an enrolled product lacks a compliant image. Solution: Upload a high-quality product image
  • Too many reviews: Arises when a product reaches the maximum 29 reviews. No action needed; Amazon will stop offering the product to Vine Voices

Should you sign up for Amazon Vine? Weighing pros and cons

Let’s evaluate whether Amazon Vine aligns with your business goals:

Vine pros

  • Access to high-quality, unbiased reviews from trusted customers that typically provide deeper product insights
  • Increased review count signals product popularity and trustworthiness
  • Honest feedback helps improve your products over time
  • More detailed reviews can improve your product’s search ranking, increasing visibility and sales

Vine cons

  • No guarantee of positive reviews, and some products may receive no reviews
  • Limited availability—only brand-registered sellers in certain regions can participate
  • Substantial upfront investment with enrollment costs for each parent ASIN
  • Maximum of 30 reviews per product through the program
  • Challenging to measure effectiveness due to indirect benefits

When considering Vine, select products that would benefit most from detailed reviews and monitor feedback closely. While you can’t contact Vine Voices directly, you can respond to queries and use feedback to improve your offerings.

Leverage customer reviews for better business growth

Comprehensive reviews from Vine Voices provide numerous benefits—from helping buyers make informed decisions to improving your visibility and building brand credibility. Detailed, impartial reviews give your business a competitive edge, though managing customer reviews can be challenging since not all feedback will be positive.

Beyond Amazon Vine, you can generate reviews with tools like FeedbackWhiz Emails, which lets you automate Amazon’s request a review button, create personalized feedback requests, target your best customers, and streamline your review process. And now that it’s part of the Seller 365 bundle, you also get 9 more apps when you sign up for it—for the price of one.
