FedEx 2024 & 2025 price change timeline and analysis
FedEx just updated its rates again. Before you ship, here’s what you should know.

FedEx began the year with its annual General Rate Increase (GRI) and several significant price changes:
Base rate changes
The company implemented a 5.9% average rate increase across all major service categories:
- FedEx Express package and freight services
- FedEx Ground and Home Delivery services
- FedEx Freight services for LTL shipments
Additional handling surcharge updates
- Dimension-based fee: Increased to $18.50 per package
- Weight-based handling: Raised to $31.00 per package
- Extended length handling: Adjusted to $41.50 per package
Other January modifications
- Residential delivery surcharge increased to $5.25
- Additional declared value fees raised to $1.50 per $100 of value
- Ground Unauthorized Package Charge increased to $1,075 per package

January 1, 2025 announced changes
FedEx has announced significant rate adjustments and surcharge modifications effective January 6, 2025:
General rate increase (GRI)
- FedEx Express rates will increase by an average of 5.9% for U.S. domestic, U.S. export, and U.S. import services
- FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery rates will increase by an average of 5.9%
- FedEx Freight rates will increase by an average of 5.9% for customers who use FXF PZONE and FXF EZONE rates
Surcharge updates
- Late payment fee will increase from 6% to 8%
- Third Party Billing surcharge will increase to 5.5% of total shipment charges
- Additional Handling Surcharge will be updated based on dimensions and weight
- The Address Correction charge will be modified for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground services
Service-specific changes
FedEx Freight will implement several changes:
- Extreme length surcharge will apply to shipments with dimensions of 12 feet or greater
- High-cost delivery fee will be assessed for specific ZIP codes
- Close of Business delivery service will be discontinued for FedEx Freight Priority and Economy
International service updates
- FedEx International Priority Express (IPE) service will be discontinued for U.S. export shipments
- Various international surcharges will be adjusted to reflect market conditions
